about

This song is a plea to those in power to see the innocent victims of their oppression and to realize that their own peace and soul are lost in the midst of using violence to resolve differences. The song includes a reference to religious violence, hatred and derision, which cause so much pain in the name of something that ironically espouses compassion. It is a call for the oppressors to wake up and see what they are doing in the name of political or religious movements.

lyrics

In the shade you are sleeping
beneath the trees quietly weeping
for the messages we’ve left
for our sons.

Oh, a thousand times I’ve tried
but I can't really decide
if after all this pain
just what have we’ve won.

Hold me, for I’m falling
falling from this violence
that you’ve done.

Hear me, for I’m calling
for you to see past
the barrel of your gun.

If you could see past religion
so full of fear and derision
you would finally awake
in sweet love.

If you could only just hear me
above the roar of this hating
you would finally awake
in sweet love.

Hold me, for I’m falling
falling from this violence
that you’ve done.

Hear me, for I’m calling
for you to see past
the barrel of your gun.
